On the next ingredient i.e that the girl was not the wife of the accused, it is clear from the evidence of pw4, the mother of the victim in this case that the victim Nana Firdausi Bello is not the wife of the defendant and I so hold. On the next ingredient of the offence i.e that there was penetration, this is one of the most important ingredients of the offence of rape to be proved by the prosecution. In many cases of our superior courts, it has been held that even a slight penetration of the penis into the Virgina of the prosecutrix will be enough to satisfy this ingredient. In the case at hand, the victim Nana Firdausi Bello stated in her testimony before this court that the defendant removed her panties, asked her to lay down on his mattress and he also removed his trouser and lay on her and inserted his penis into her virgina and when she went home and informed her mother and her mother said she should go with her to identify the defendant, she told her mother that she could not walk because her private part was paining her. Her mother who testified as PW4 stated that when she checked the panties of her daughter Nana Firdausi Bello pw3 she saw blood.
