Ladan Ibrahim Esq: On behalf of the convict, I appeal to this court to tender mercy in sentencing the convict considering the years he spent in custody. There is no previous conviction as he is a first term offender. He has defendants to take care of and he is still young to be useful to the society. We urge the court to be lenient and also urge the court to invoke the provisions of section 510 of the ACJL of Sokoto state 2019 by giving him option of fine in lieu of imprisonment. Zulai Bello DLD: We urge the court to sentence the convict according to law. To our best knowledge, there is no previous conviction against the convict and so the convict is a first term offender. SENTENCE Court: By the provisions of Section 310 (3) of the ACJL of Sokoto State 2019, after conviction while sentencing a trial court is required to take into consideration all aggravating and mitigating evidence or information as a guide in deciding the nature and extent of the sentence to be imposed on the convict. I have taken into consideration, the allocutus of the defence counsel on behalf of the convict as well as the response of the prosecuting counsel to the allocutus made by the defence counsel on behalf of the convict.
