You may proceed.
Habila Jonathan Esq: Our PW4 is Barr. Yahaya Yunusa Gwazawa. He
will testify in English language.
PW4 (after affirmation): My name is Yahaya Yunusa Gwazawa. I live at
Mana Area Sokoto. I am a Legal Practitioner. I know the
defendant. I could remember in July, 2021, precisely first
week of July when the defendant’s younger brotherAlhaji
Umar called me via a phone call that he wanted to see that
his brother is in EFCC custody. We met at Kaduna Road and
he told me that he want me to represent his brother at the
EFCC. The next day I went to the EFCC together with the
said Alhaji Umar and went to the investigating officer and he
said the defendant want to make additional statement. He
told me that the defendant had on the previous date made a
statement he then brought the defendant and the defendant
said though he understands English but he cannot write
fluently in English. He then authorized me to write the
statement on his behalf in the presence of the Investigation
Officer Mr. Akpan (PW). The defendant signed the
authorization authorizing to record his statement. Because
Akpan
cannot
understand
Hausa,
he
asked
me
to
communicate with the defendant in English language. The
defendant narrated his statement which I recorded in English
language and signed as a recorder after the defendant had
signed. That is all.
