Abbas. I was among the IPOs that were command to investigate the case. The team comprises of SP Musa Ibrahim Kamba, ASP Ahmed Suleman, Insp. Musa Abdullahi Tyson, Sgt. Jamilu Musa and myself. I was assigned to record statement from the defendants. I then invited the defendant to our detective room who at that time was a Police Officer, but now not a Police Officer because he was tried by an orderly room trial and was recommended for dismissal. I wrote the word of caution in Hausa language and informed him the allegation made against him. I then read the words of caution to the defendant in Hausa language and I asked the defendant if he is willing to make a statement, then he should sign the words of caution. The defendant signed the words of caution and I asked him to write his statement, but the defendant authorized me to write for him. The defendant then volunteered his statement in Hausa language and I recorded it in Hausa language. After recording the statement, I read it over to him in Hausa language. He understood and signed and I also signed as the recorder. I translated the statement into English language and put them inside the case file. A.A.
