testified that after the interrogation the 1st defendant volunteered a statement which recorded. The evidence of PW3 one Inspector Jacob Afolayan who recorded the statement of the 2nd defendant is substantially the same with the evidence of PW2. He also recorded the additional statement of the 1st defendant of it was his evidence that the 2nd defendant confessed his participation in the commission of offence alleged against them. PW4 one Inspector Lawal Abdullahi played the role of an inter prater during the recording of the statements from Hausa to English and vice versa because the defendant gave their statements in Hausa language and the witness has give the graphic details of how he played his role of interpreter. PW5 one ASP Muhammad Amadu is the superior police officer before whom the defendants were taken along with their statements for endorsement because of the confessional nature of their statements. It was his evidence that he read the statements to the defendants and the defendants confirmed to him that the statements were made by them voluntarily before he endorsed the statement. The contents of Exhibits B, B1 B2 and B3 which are the extra-judicial statements of the 1st defendant, clearly gave credence to the evidence of PW2 and PW3 with regards to the participation of the defendant in the kidnapping as the statements had clearly shown that after the victim was kidnapped from Masalata Village in Niger Republic he was later brought to Kalmalu forest in Illela local Government Area of Sokoto state before the victim was rescued. Exhibit C and C1 which are the statement of the 2nd defendant also corroborated the contents of the statement of the 1st defendant with regards to their participation in the Page 8 of 13
