S. Ovia – we are ready. PW1 Sat Haruna My name is Inspector Sa’idu Haruna. I’m a serving member of the Nigerian police force. I’m attached to C.I.D office Sokoto. I’m with human right department. I’m there as an IPO. I have been an IPO for the past 4 years. My duties as an IPO include general duties and investigation of cases. I know the defendant. His name is Nasiru Yakubu. He is from Minanata area. I know the defendant when a case of rape was reported against him. It was on 12th day of March 2020 at about 17:00 hrs while I was on duty as an IPO a case referred to my office, human right department. My OC who is now late ASP Ibrahim Bala and his 2 IC Abubakar Adamu and myself Insp. Sa’idu Haruna and Sat Aminu Yusuf were detailed to investigate. I could remember on 12th of March 2020 after I was assigned to investigate the case, I recorded the statement of the defendant in Hausa language. I put words of caution in Hausa language. I read the words of caution to him in Hausa language and he said he understood. He thumprinted the words of caution and I counter signed same. I then proceeded to record his statement in Hausa language and I read the statement to him in Hausa language and he thumprinted and after that I translated his statement from Hausa to English language.
