in person of Umaru Dikko (the 1st Defendant). I got to know the 1st Defendant in a case which was transferred from State CID, Sokoto State Police Command in which the 1st Defendant was the petitioner to our office while he was under investigation at State CID, Sokoto. His petition was received on the 30/7/2019 against the nature of investigation at the State CID level. On receiving his petition, a team of detectives were assigned to investigate which was led by O/C homicide section one DSP Sani Chika, but directly supervised by detective Aliyu Umar. We raised a signal sequel to the petition to State CID Office to transfer the case to Zonal CID Office for further investigation. The case was thereafter transferred to Zonal CID on the 5/8/2019. I was thereafter directed to record the State of the 1st Defendant Umar Dikko. I first of all ask the Defendant whether he has a lawyer that will defend him and he said no. I later cautioned him in Hausa Language and he volunteered a statement which I recorded in Hausa Language. Thereafter the Hausa Version was translated to English Language and both were filed in the case diary. The statement was confessional in nature and so. We took the statement to our superior for endorsement. At the point of endorsement, the statement was read over, to him and he accepted same to be his statement. After that it was endorsed. The Defendant signed the Hausa version but did not sign the English translated version. Abbas Samaila Esq: If you see the Hausa and English translated versions can you identify them? PW2: Yes I can identify them through my handwriting and signature. Abbas Samaila Esq: Have a look at these documents and tell the court if they are the ones you are referring to in your evidence.
