On the admissibility of the confessional statement exhibit P3, which was
tendered by PW1, it is the law that an accused person can be convicted on
the basis of his confessional statement alone, but the court has to look for
to show that the confession is

A confession alone is sufficient to ground a conviction even where such
confession is retracted at trial provided the truth of the matter in the
statement is established by some other evidence no matLer how slight.
Nevertheless, the trial court is enjoined to evaluate the confession and find
out
if the statement is corroborated by other evidence outside the
confession which shows that

The lower court at page L44 of the record acknowledged that the coutt
ought to look for some independent corroboration, no matter how little, to
test the veracity of the defendant's confession.
This Court has examined exhibit PLIPZ and P3. They both contain
admissions of the offence of kidnapping of the prosper Kachikwu Prosper,p
Theresa Oforzoba, Obi Promise Ujuwa, Semiteje Fransica Uwandi and Dr
in counts 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the
information filed against the defendant, at the Bth minute of video
Anozie Uchechukwu mentioned
recording, several other incidents of kidnapping... in whatever kidnappings
that were mentioned to him irrespective of whether or not he was involved
